We were honored to get to interview Wendy Marín Ortiz, the coordinator of Lifeway Mujeres, about the ministry to Spanish-speaking women happening through their platform. 1. Tell us about you! What’s your story, and how did the Lord bring you there? ¡Cuéntanos de ti! ¿Cuál es tu historia? ¿Cómo el Señor te trajo hasta aquí?

I’m Wendy Marín Ortiz, Pastor Oscar Ortiz’s wife of 13 years, and “Mommy” to Owen and Marina. Currently, I work from home as the Lifeway Mujeres and Lifeway Niños’ Coordinator and also as the Spanish VBS Specialist.

In 2005, my husband and I arrived as newlyweds—exactly two days after our wedding—to the United States directly from our home in Puerto Rico. My husband always says that we’re still on our honeymoon! We are located in Fort Worth, TX, where we both did our graduate studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. We’ve been here ever since. We had our children in Fort Worth, and my husband planted a Hispanic church, Iglesia Nueva Esperanza, seven years ago, where we minister to the Hispanic families in our area.

Although I worked full-time, I came to the Lifeway family in 2010 as a Spanish VBS trainer in Texas during my free time. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to train for Lifeway in Ecuador, Colombia, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, and many cities in the United States. In 2016, I started to be “the face” of Spanish VBS in marketing videos. Last September, B&H Español and Lifeway Mujeres’s marketing director, César Custodio, asked me to take the lead on Lifeway Mujeres. They were in need of a woman who could take care of a women’s platform! So, I prayed, I talked with my husband, and we decided this was what God was guiding us to do. Last November, I officially started in this new role.

This opportunity was an answer to our prayers. Months before, I had stopped working full-time because I knew that God was calling me to stay home. I always asked the Lord to give me the opportunity to minister to women from home, and God answered! We were obedient, and we have been very blessed.

Actualmente trabajo desde mi casa como Coordinadora de Lifeway Mujeres y Lifeway Niños y como especialista de la EBV. Mi esposo y yo llegamos recién casados—exactamente dos días después de la boda—a Estados Unidos en el 2005 directamente desde nuestro hogar en Puerto Rico. Mi esposo dice que aún estamos de luna de miel. Nos ubicamos en Fort Worth, TX donde ambos hicimos estudios posgraduados en el Seminario Teológico Bautista Southwestern. Acá tuvimos a nuestros hijos. Mi esposo plantó la Iglesia Nueva Esperanza hace 7 años y aquí hemos permanecido ministrando a las familias hispanas de nuestra área.

Aunque trabajaba yo a tiempo completo, llegué a la familia Lifeway en el 2010 para ofrecer capacitaciones de EBV en el estado de Texas en mi tiempo “libre.” Con los años se fueron expandiendo las oportunidades y he podido llevar capacitaciones a Ecuador, Colombia, Guatemala, Puerto Rico y a muchas ciudades en Estados Unidos. En el 2016 comencé a ser “la cara” de EBV en los videos de mercadeo. En septiembre del año pasado el director de mercadeo de B&H Español y de Lifeway Mujeres, César Custodio me hizo el acercamiento para que me hiciera cargo de coordinación de Lifeway Mujeres. Me dijo que necesitaban a una mujer que se hiciera cargo. Así que hablé que oré, hablé con mi esposo y decidimos que era lo que Dios estaba guiándome a hacer. En noviembre pasado comencé oficialmente en este nuevo rol.

Esta oportunidad fue una respuesta a una petición familiar, meses antes yo había dejado de trabajar a tiempo completo porque sabía que Dios me estaba llamando a quedarme en casa. Le había pedido a Dios trabajar en el ministerio con las mujeres pero desde casa. ¡Y Dios respondió! Nosotros fuimos obedientes y hemos sido muy bendecidos.

2. What is Lifeway Mujeres, and why was it started? ¿Qué es Lifeway Mujeres y porqué fue comenzó?

Lifeway Mujeres is not just a blog. It is a ministry of B&H Español and Lifeway Global that provides books, Bible studies, articles, reflections, videos, and podcasts among many other resources to Hispanic women all over the world. All of our content is based on the Word of God and on the biblical design for women.

We have a team of about fifteen collaborators who write articles for us monthly. We have launched several books and Bible studies for women, written by Hispanic authors:

• Lágrimas valientes by Aixa by López
• Adiós a mí by Dámaris Carbough
• Mujer verdadera by Revive Our Hearts (Spanish Division)
• Decisiones que transforman by Wendy Bello (this is our latest publication and the first that has the seal of Lifeway Mujeres and B&H Spanish!)

This ministry started because, in our other Lifeway Español and B&H Español’s platforms, we saw that the women’s community had very active participation and specific needs that could be met by our resources.

Lifeway Mujeres no es solo un blog, es un ministerio de B&H Español y Lifeway Global que provee libros, estudios bíblicos, artículos, reflexiones, videos, podcast, entre muchas otras cosas a las mujeres. Todo está centrado en la Palabra de Dios y en el diseño bíblico para la mujer. Tenemos un equipo de unas 15 colaboradoras que escriben para nosotros mes tras mes. Hemos lanzado varios libros y estudios bíblicos para mujeres, escritos por autoras hispanas:

• Mujer Verdadera del ministerio Aviva nuestros corazones

Este ministerio comenzó porque en nuestras otras plataformas de Lifeway Español y B&H Español vimos que la comunidad de mujeres tenía una participación muy activa y con necesidades específicas propias de las mujeres.

3. Since Lifeway Mujeres began, what impact have you seen? Desde que Lifeway Mujeres comenzó, ¿qué impacto has visto?

Lifeway Mujeres began in May 2018, and we had no idea the growth we would have within the Hispanic community in the United States and Latin America. Currently, there are thousands of women who have been added to our blog, and on our Facebook page, we have more than 28,000 followers. Every month, thousands continue to join.

Also, the fact that Lifeway Women took the time to interview the Lifeway Mujeres Coordinator is encouraging. With the sovereign help of God, Lifeway Women and Lifeway Mujeres are transcending languages to continue carrying the Word to women no matter their native tongue. We would not have imagined this when we began, and now it is a reality.

Our resources and publications are constantly shared on social media. Every day, we receive feedback from our followers asking for prayer or simply giving thanks for the impact Lifeway Mujeres has had on their lives.

Lifeway Mujeres will have its first Lifeway Mujeres Tour this summer in Colombia. One of our authors, Aixa de López, will visit Barranquilla, Santa Clara, and Cali to teach the Word to women there.

God has given us a never-imagined growth. The need was there, and God, in His sovereignty, chose us to be His instruments.

Lifeway Mujeres comenzó en mayo de 2018, y no teníamos idea del crecimiento que iba a tener dentro de la comunidad hispana en Estados Unidos y Latinoamérica. Actualmente son miles de mujeres que se han añadido a nuestro blog, en nuestra página de Facebook tenemos más de 28 mil seguidoras y todos los meses se siguen sumando miles.

Además el hecho de que Lifeway Women se haya tomado el tiempo de entrevistar a la Coordinadora de Lifeway Mujeres es alentador. Con la ayuda soberana de Dios Lifeway Mujeres y Lifeway Women están trascendiendo idiomas para continuar llevando la Palabra a las mujeres no importa su lengua natal. Al comienzo, esto ni lo hubiéramos imaginado y ya es una realidad.

Nuestros recursos y publicaciones son compartidas constantemente en las redes sociales. Cada día recibimos comentarios de nuestras seguidoras pidiendo oración o simplemente dando gracias por el impacto que Lifeway Mujeres ha sido para sus vidas.

Lifeway Mujeres tendrá su primer gira este verano en Colombia, la autora Aixa de López irá a las ciudades de Barranquilla, Santa Clara y Cali a impartir la Palabra a otras mujeres.

Dios ha dado un crecimiento nunca imaginado. La necesidad estaba allí y Dios nos escogió en Su soberanía para ser Sus instrumentos.

4. How can a woman support Lifeway Mujeres if she isn’t a Spanish speaker? ¿Cómo una mujer que no habla español puede apoyar a Lifeway Mujeres?

Nearly 60 million Hispanics live in the United States, so all or almost all of us have contact with Hispanics every day. Many churches in the United States also organize mission trips to countries in Latin American or have Hispanic congregations within their churches. Whatever your case may be, we encourage you to reach out. Every time you see a Hispanic face or listen to a woman speaking Spanish, tell her about Lifeway Mujeres and its resources in Spanish. Our blog has a list of all of our books, Bibles, and Bible studies for Hispanic women. You can rest assured that the resources we provide at Lifeway Mujeres are Christ-centered and biblical. You can use Lifeway Mujeres as another tool to make disciples of all nations.
